FISHING ON THE RIVER WEAR IN THE MIDDLE AND UPPER REACHES
W. & D.A.C.
Was formed in 1958 by local residents for residents of the old Crook & Willington urban area. in 1996 it extended it's boundaries for membership to cover the whole of the Wear Valley Council Area. it is a small friendly club with a membership ceiling of 140 Senior members, there is no ceiling on Junior members, in addition to this there is a further 30 Season Permits allowed, the season permit allows the holder to fish all of the waters controlled by the club, but it does not allow them to enter any of the competitions nor does it allow any vote in the running of the club.
Game angling.
The club controlls approx 3 miles of excellent Brown Trout and Grayling water in the Willington area which is stocked every year with good quality Brown Trout. This water is superb fly fishing water, however other methods are allowed. Depending on water conditions it can also produce good runs of Salmon and Sea Trout. In addition to this water the Club has a further 21/2 - 3 miles of water in the Eastgate area. This water is primarily worm and spinning ( fly can be used in certain pools ) for Salmon and sea Trout.
Best Fish for 2004 season:-
Brown Trout, 5lb 1oz.
Sea Trout, 8lb 4oz.
Salmon, 15lb 2oz.
Coarse Fishing.
The Club also controls the fishing on Seldom Seen Ponds, Which are situated on the South Bank of the River Wear between the villages of Newfield and Byers Green. We are currently developing these ponds as a coarse fishery. They are well stocked with Perch, Roach, Bream, Tench, a few Carp and Pike.
( whilst full membership offers fishing on these ponds at no extra charge, a reduced permit is offered which only allows the holder to fish these ponds and not the River )
